Cold Plunge Before or After Sauna? How to Combine Both for Maximum Recovery

Cold and heat together — contrast therapy — is one of the oldest recovery practices in the world. Scandinavian cultures have alternated sauna and cold water for centuries. Today, elite sports medicine programs and biohackers are formalizing the protocols. Here's what the research says and how to structure it.

Why Contrast Therapy Works

Heat and cold produce opposing vascular responses. Sauna causes vasodilation — blood vessels expand, heart rate increases, blood is pushed toward the skin surface.
